MESSAGE FROM DR JOHN EBNEZAR, A “PADMA SHRI” AWARDEE, FOUNDER PRESIDENT OF GOSI

Dear Friends,

Geriatric Orthopedic Problems have assumed great significance in the recent times due to the ever increasing geriatric population thanks to the increase in the life expectancy of people across the globe and India. Bulk of an orthopedic surgeons practice involves this population. The challenge in treating a geriatric patient is different due to the associated multiple co-morbidities, co-musculoskeletal conditions and psychosocial problems. Treating a geriatric patient demands special skills.  I started GOSI with an intention of creating a forum which focuses on training the orthopedic surgeons to gear up to the challenges of managing a geriatric orthopedic patient.

Three International Conferences, more than 400 life members and a record number of 8 CME’s have been conducted this year at Bangalore, Dhaka,Kolkatta,Hyderabad,Eluru,Leh Ladakh and Shimla  and with 2 International meetings in Dhaka and Pattaya we are all set to enter into the record books as the most successful new orthopedic body ever in India.   We plan to start our own research, fellowships, and journal and exchange programs.  We also plan to form guidelines and protocols in the management of geriatric orthopedic problems and fragility fractures.

This year conference is going to be bigger and better and it is being held outside Bangalore for the first time as lots of members are showing interest in conducting GOSICON in their places.  Dr. Sanjeev Patnaik and his team have organized the 4^th International Conference at Bhubaneswar, Orissa from Sept 23^rd to 25^th 2016 at May Fair Lagoon Hotel and Convention Centre.  He and his team have worked very hard to make this conference a great academic, social, and cultural event.  This is a great development as it gives us a chance to expand our scope to different parts of the county.  This conference is accredited with 12 CME credit hours by the Orissa Medical Council with one extra point for the faculty.

I thank you all for attending GOSICON-2016 in great numbers and request you to  become members of GOSI and strengthen our hands to further your skills and knowledge in managing this special group.  I take this opportunity to invite you again for the next International Edition GOSICON-2017 to be held at Chandigarh on 23^rd to 25^th September 2017 at Chandigarh.  My good friend Dr Vijay Goni will be organizing this event.  I am sure with his enormous experience and organizational skills he will put up an outstanding show in Chandigarh.

Highlights of the conference

The 4th International Conference of the Geriatric Orthopedic Society of India – GOSICON-2016 was held at Bhubaneshwar,Orissa India at May Fair Lagoon Hotel.

It was organised by Dr Sanjeev Patnaik and more than 350 delegates from all over the World attended this event, that was a grand success.
