GOSI that was started with an intention of creating a forum, which focuses on training the orthopedic surgeons to gear up to the challenges of managing a geriatric orthopedic patient, is now making great strides. This society has grown in number and has a presence in almost all the states of the Country and abroad too. We hope to scale great heights with the active support of you all and other organizations across the globe.
Geriatric Society Of India was started with a very humble beginning during 2013 in the view of our growing population of elders with one too many traumas & orthopedic health challenges that we as practicing Orthopedic Surgeons across the country were noticing in a gradual manner comprising about 40% to 50% of our clinical practice. These elderly presented with either one of fracture, frequent fractures. Chronic morbid conditions of arthritis with multiple co-morbid conditions which require a very dedicated team of Doctors to handle those issues to reduce the morbidity & mortality in that tender age. Hence to sensitize the practicing Orthopedic Professionals need to have a focused group / organization which can & will address those issues. To do so we require a team of professionals who can deal with the latest global knowledge. Hence GOSI expanded the Life Membership apart from Orthopedic Surgeons to Physicians, Geriatricians, Anesthetists, Rheumatologists, and Endocrinologists & Gynecologists to address the issues. During the last seven years of our journey as a National Medical Organization I am proud to say that we are edging towards 1000 members from across the Country & Globe. We conduct annual conference in different states of the country to spread the focus around.
We are also conducting awareness programs for general public as CME: Community Medical Education Programs. In the next couple of years we are rolling out many events for both Doctors & as well as for general public, these programs will be updated & announced as we move along. I thank each & every member of GOSI who has been a guiding force to strengthen the organization & also have committed to contribute to make that positive difference in the care of the elderly with standard protocols to follow.
During this CoViD 19 pandemic GOSI has brought out Guideline for Doctors & General public to adhere to keep themselves from getting infected / staying healthy. These guidelines are going to be updated & posted as we move along.
